If you have kids, when you come home from work, you may have a lot to do before you actually get to unwind from the day.  I believe it is important to establish a routine that is repeatable. We talk about the importance of having a routine for our kids, but the same is true for adults, for the same reasons. Routines give us a sense of stability.

Cucumber Juice

When I get home from work, the first thing I do is juice 2-3 cucumber, and drink a full glass of cucumber juice.  This is another suggestion from the Medical Medium.  Anthony William says cucumbers are the best rejuvenation tonic in the world.  It is highly alkalizing and hydrating drink.  It can detox and cleanse the entire body, and aid in the excretion of wastes.  I look forward to my glass of cucumber juice every day, it is so refreshing.

Early Dinner

We eat a light dinner on the early side and everyone is done eating between 6:00-6:30pm.

Tea and Broth

After dinner I love to have a warm drink, I boil water in the tea kettle and make tea using the juice of ½ a lemon, juice a 2-inch piece of ginger, add 1 teaspoon of raw honey, and mix.  We also like lemon balm tea and thyme tea.

Occasionally we enjoy drinking broth.  We heat up some broth on the stove top (chicken bone, restorative minerals, or vegetable broth) and sip on it.  If you live in Northern Va, there is a wonderful local business called 100 Bowls of Soup, where we buy the broth. They also sell vegan soups that are great.  You can order and pay online, choose a pick up window, and pick up your order on the front porch.

The Wind Down

After the kids go to bed, I try to take a few minutes to do some foam rolling and a light bounce on my rebounder (a few minutes of light bouncing can help shed the tension of the day).

Foam Rolling & Rebounding

Foam rolling is not just a tool to help roll out sore muscles. I also enjoy foam rolling to roll out the kinks of the day. This is the foam roller I use here.  I recommend Lauren Roxburgh's product line. You can find the entire set on amazon. Why foam rolling?

  • Boost circulation
  • Boost lymphatic drainage (which helps flush toxins from the body and even reduce cellulite)
  • Reduces inflammation and stress in the body
  •  Smooth out your fascia (the thin layer of connective tissue that lies under the skin and wraps the entire body, as well as each individual muscle and organ)
  • And so much more...

I plan on writing an entire post on rebounding and foam rolling as they have completely changed the way I exercise.

In the meantime, if rebounding and foam rolling sound like something you might be interested in trying, Lauren Roxbugh (AKA the body whisperer) has a free online program with workouts, visualizations, recipes, and other resources to help boost your immune system and reduce stress during these difficult times. Rebounding is another way to detox.  Rebounding for 10 minutes a day will forcefully promote circulation throughout your lymphatic system.

Infrared Sauna Blanket

About a year ago, I was doing research on ways to detox and I came across a lot of articles that talked about the benefits of using an infrared sauna.

I was especially interested in this because I am one of those people that NEVER sweat.  I never thought much of it before but after starting my research I realized how important sweating is for detoxing.  You release toxins when you sweat.

I found one in my area that fits up to 6 people at a time and I made it into a bi-weekly girl’s night with some of my friends. Infrared saunas emit infrared light on your skin for the purpose of healing. Some of the benefits include:

  • Increased blood flow and oxygenation of the blood
  • Removal of toxins from the skin
  • Elimination of aches and pains
  • Immune system boost

It is recommended to use the infrared sauna twice a week.  As a working mom of 3 boys, this did not seem attainable.  I think for most people this would be difficult, so I did some research and found an amazing infrared sauna blanket. Click here for the one I have and LOVE! Some benefits of this particular sauna blanket include:

  • Detoxify the body
  • Delivers fresh nutrients to the muscles
  • Boost metabolic- so you burn calories like you are working out, without working out.
  • Triggers your brain’s happiness chemicals
  • Healing amethyst deepens benefits of infrared
  • Tourmaline layer generates negative ions
  • Charcoal layer to amplify detoxification process
  • Medical grade magnetic strip for improved blood circulation
  • Low EMF heating
  • Wider velcro strap for better fastening
  • Easier to access controller
  • Premium non-toxic interior and exterior fabrics
  • Designed in part by Dr. Raleigh Duncan, Founder of Clearlight Saunas

Since the quarantine, I have been using it more than ever.  I shower immediately afterward in order to wash off all the toxins my body just sweat out.  I also feel like I sleep better after a session.

Sleep

Try to get to bed by 10:00 pm.  Your body does the most healing between the hours of 10-2.  If you are someone who has a hard time falling asleep, here are some strategies to try:

  • Declutter your bedroom- You want to have an organized, clear, and clean bedroom at the end of the day in order to create a calm atmosphere (more information on a clean/non toxic bedroom coming soon).
  • Calm app- We do the daily calm every night.  The kids now request it after we have read books, as the voice is so calming and the lessons are great.  It really gets their body ready for rest.
  • Take a walk – breath in some fresh air, look at the stars, and clear your mind from the day.
  • Take an herbal bath- Try one of these.
  • Turn your phone on airplane mode and try to stay off screens 2 hours before going to bed.

We all know it is important to get a good night’s sleep, but so few of us make it a priority to get enough.  Sleep is a key ingredient in our overall wellness.  It is when our tissues are able to renew, our organs and muscles heal, and our brains recharge.  It is a vital time to allow our minds to rest.

My next blog will be about my evening clean skincare routine.  It will be a big one, you don’t want to miss it- subscribe.
